Tajikistan 2012

Sworde Teppa is a English charity which runs a school in Querghon Teppa, Tajikistan, that takes orphan children from the area and works towards them getting scholarships to educational establishments in the USA or UK. Charity Road Trips, a Wimborne based charity, is running a nine day trip in May to provide a range of workshops to give the children, and local community, a taste of new skills - whether that be Engineering, Vehicle Mechanics, Business and Enterprise or IT.

Having worked in IT for nearly 20 years, and been a Venture Scout leader for over 10 years, I felt ideally suited to this project... so I volunteered to be the IT trainer. To do this I need to raise £1100 to pay for flights, food, accommodation, visa and such like. I am well on the way to this target but further donations will be gratefully received, and your name can appear on this page too! You can donate on my fundraising page - https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/oz.

There are now 8 members on the team, including a vet and a professional photographer, and of course me! Publicity has been good, with the project appearing in the local press, including a recent article in the Bournemouth Echo (click the article to view it full size).

The team featured on Radio Solent's breakfast show in early November, and the project leader has been giving regular updates to the listeners since then. Adventure Travel Magazine are interested in what we doing and will be featuring it in their magazine nearer the time, and there are hopefully plans in the pipeline to have a small film crew with us to make a reality/documentary/adventure programme.

I'm really excited about having the opportunity to be part of such a project. It is set to be an experience I will never forget, and I hope will set the children at the school on the path to a better future. With that in mind I ask you to be generous in your donations - https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/oz.
